Technology
Piston or Screw?
Choosing the right compressor technology is the single most important decision in any compressed air project. NUAIR manufactures both — and we can help you make the right call.
How to choose
The primary distinction between piston and screw compressors lies in their intended duty cycle. Professional piston compressors are designed to operate intermittently — working hard during demand peaks and resting between cycles. This makes them ideal for workshops, service centres, and professional applications where compressed air is needed in bursts.
Screw compressors, by contrast, are designed for continuous applications — running under sustained load for extended periods without thermal stress or performance degradation. Industrial production lines, paint booths, and high-volume pneumatic systems are natural fits.
The greater the daily use, the greater the possibility that a screw compressor is the most suitable technology. Air flow requirements and the frequency at which that flow is demanded must be considered together before a final recommendation can be made.
Duty Cycle
Piston compressors excel in intermittent use — bursts of demand followed by rest. Screw compressors are built for continuous, uninterrupted operation at full load.
Daily Usage
The greater the number of hours per day the compressor runs, the greater the likelihood that a screw unit is the most suitable choice for your application.
Air Flow & Frequency
The required air flow volume and the frequency at which it is demanded must both be evaluated carefully before selecting a compressor technology.
Pressure Requirements
Both technologies cover a broad pressure range, but the delivery profile — steady vs. pulsed — differs and must be matched to connected tooling and processes.
